This is not the book of dyzan It is a book about the book of dyzan and supposedly advanced masters of various levels, living in a place invisible to normal humans. The real book of dyzan has so many restrictions on reading it by normal humans, that nothing much was revealed in this book. Why even bother telling us so unqualified humans about such a book if hardly anyone is qualified to read it? I was very disappointed to read about the book instead of the book itself or at least some sxcerpts. It's a good thing it only costed $.99 It should be entitled "about the book of dyzan" which doesn't mislead someone into actually thinking it is the book of dyzan.

The title should have been “A Speculative Sermon on Things Related to the Book of Dzyan”, for that is what it is. This book is so “hoi polloi”, in that it is very “other”: it talks about how the Better People of Humanity did things, and all the Masters closed the true mystery schools 120 years ago because world wars were imminent, and so on in such phrasing that one might find in a 19th century spiritualist tome.Basically: if you want a window of a world of, from, and to which you can only barely glimpse, cannot benefit, and can’t travel, then by all means, buy and read this book.The description the author gives is an exact telling of what you get: descriptive language of something of which there is no proof.Waste no more time, and keep your money.

I have been an avid reader of The Secret Doctrine and other books by HPB and the Theosophical Press for most of my life. I have always been fascinated by the existence of The Masters. I have recently pored over the three volumes of The Sanctus Germanus Prophecies. I will certainly be dusting off my old Edgar Cayce books after the wonderful mentions in The Secret Book of Dzyan. I was fascinated by the wonderful insights into this intense subject -that I consider very real, and am looking forward to delving into some (new to me) stanzas that I believe I will find in some of Zinovia's further works.

If I met the author, I would demand my money back. And you know what would happen? She'd give it back to me because she's got absolutely no fantasy to run on then. I have read yet again a book about nothing, about what it is in one's mind. Book of 60 pages, part 1 and 2 she just beats around the bushes, not getting to tell specifics of the book of Dzyan, which is supposed to be part 3.. But behold! Dushkova never gets there, because she's conning you and I, she's banking on the genuine desire of normal people to know more and to have a connection with the immortal life. Shame on her and all the flocks of importers who make money selling smoke. Please Zinovia, write down a family recipe for a heart warming meal, instead of riding the Blavatsky train ad lib.

I have read many spiritual books, but this book is something special. It is written very well and it has lots of good information and is very, very interesting...I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more information about human history and what the book of Dzyan is all about. Anyone who is intested in spiritual matters will find this book very interesting...

The implication is that you are buying the actual book, but this is ABOUT the Secret Book of Dzyan, and quite frankly, it is more about other issues than the book itself. I know, the so-called 86 page book is only 49 cents, but I hate deception, especially when the topic is supposed to be spiritual. Save your pennies and buy one of Neville's books.

I like the author's writing style and factual reporting. No fluff and wasted words. She tells what needs to be toldin brief sentences full of content worthy of reading and remembering.

I didn't realize that it was a children's book.

Like Obama, Iginla is the product of a white, Western mother and a continental African father with whom he had little contact. Like Obama, he's a 1st Black leader, not just a Black member in a bunch. Physically, he kinda reminds me of the actor Matthew Rush.The focus of the text is his successes on the ice. Hockey fans will love that. However, I found it disjarring at the beginning of the book when the author basically says, "He was born, his grandparents took him to sports practices, and then he was on a professional team."The book never suggests he faced racism, only that he knew his sport had few Black players. Both he and out NBA player John Amaechi are interested in non-profit work that benefits children. However, Amaechi's autobiography seemed to suggest that he sees himself as British first and Black a distant fourth or fifth. I was glad that Iginla seemed like he specifically wanted to work with Black children and introduce them to hockey. This book doesn't suggest that Iginla fought on the ring as much as hocky player of color Jordin Tootoo did.Black feminist bell hooks complained that in the documentary "Hoop Dreams" out of nowhere the ball player had a girlfriend and a child. Here, if you don't read carefully, you could miss that Iginla married his high school sweetheart and had a daughter. In American sports bios, they would usually show photos of the family. You never see what Iginla's wife and daughter look like. I wonder if they are white and this book didn't want to highlight a mixed family, when anti-miscegenation prejudices may still exist, even in Canada.Format-wise, this series is sooooo different from American counterparts. This book is tiny, no bigger than my hand. American books about sports stars for young readers are usually hardcover; this was soft cover. The US type has lots of color photos; this book had few photos, all in black and white. Perhaps Canadian book publishers don't have the funds that their American counterparts do.

I love this book and have tried many recipes from it and so far, I can say that it's worth the money. However, be sure to leave room for modification of measurements and methods as some are off slightly to make the food either more difficult to prepare or be underdone or overdone. For example, the recipe for Scotch Egg, I would recommend dipping each hard-boiled egg into the egg batter THEN dusting with flour before rolling on the sausage, which is opposite of what the book recommends. The reason is that the sausage adheres to the flour and the flour adheres to the egg batter. If you dust first and then dip in the egg batter, you will have a hard time making the sausage stick. Then dip the egg/sausage into the egg batter once more before rolling it in the breadcrumbs. Also, I would quick fry in the oil and then bake rather than fry as the sole method or your egg might be burned on the outside but underdone on the inside. It's still a yummy recipe but I had to work it out myself to get it just right. On the other side of the equation, the tidbits and folklore are lots of fun so this book still earns 5 stars from me.

This being said, I found the discussions on Wicca as enriching as the tales and the food, and I learned to appreciate the Wiccan culture which provided us with mistletoe in Advent and Christmas and the hot cross bun on Good Friday. As an American of Irish ancestry, I was fascinated with the Irish tales that accompany many of the recipes, some of which produced in me laughs as hearty as a good bowl of stew.I found the recipes being grouped according to the Wiccan seasons helpful because it seems as if the Wiccans have a great respect for the earth and for agriculture; from Asala's perspective, food that may be appropriate Pentecost in May or June may not be so at around the time Christmas is celebrated and vice versa.From a health perspective, many doctors, including my friend Arlene Alexander, M.D., the sister-in-law of InterVarsity's founder John Alexander, and Neal Barnard, M.D. have considered oatmeal very beneficial to one's heart, yet even when I was vacationing in Ireland, I have avoided oatmeal simply because I do not like sweet things for breakfast, or have considered oatmeal boring. Asala's BrotchanFoltchep (Leek and Oatmeal Soup) has completely transformed the way I look at oatmeal. In keeping with Barnard's teachings against mammal products, I find this recipe easily modifiable by substituting mushroom broth for the whole milk or beef stock mentioned, and olive oil for the melted butter, even though olive oil may not have been readily accessible in Ireland prior to 1500.This is an excellent feast for the body, mind, and spirit - and not just for St. Patrick's Day!

Very cool cookbook, I actually bought it for a friend for his birthday, he absolutely loved it, he is a huge fan of Celtic folklore and he told me this cookbook is very accurate in it's portrayal of the culture, no phony stuff here! I was also really pleased to find out it actually has a pretty decent selection of vegiterian recipies in it so I utilize it quite a bit myself! So far everything I've made or he's made from this cookbook has been a hit!

There are more stories and poems of Celtic culture in this cookbook than there are recipes, but that only makes it more entertaining. If you enjoy folklore, especially food related, then this is a great cookbook for you. The recipes are traditional and I like that the author gives details about the lore surrounding each recipe and the holidays that each is associated with.

My ex had this cookbook and I'm ecstatic that I've been able to purchase it for myself. While it's not a print version, I'm ok with that. The Kindle version was only $1.99 on sale! There are little things throughout that make this book a gem: poetry, tales, random snippets of wisdom, all of these and more lift this cookbook above and beyond other similar books.A few other things I like about this particular cookbook:-The index is not only arranged by ingredient, but also by occasion.-The glossary includes terms not only used in cooking, but also used in Pagan beliefs as well as a few celtic language phrases-A list of bibliography, sources where the author of this cookbook obtained her information for poetry, tales, etc., not only listed for purposes of works cited, but also as a suggested reading list for your own research and informational purposes.

I received this book just prior to a Lughnasadh celebration with other members of a Celtic cultural organization called An Ceangal Mara (The Linking Seas, to symbolize the linking of the Celtic minds in the Old World to those of us in the New World). I used the recipe for Citrus Curd, combined it with an oat-based shortbread crust and topped it with a compote of seasonal fruits. It made a wonderful dessert for out celebration. I love the bits of folklore, stories and poetry in this work, as well as the connections of each recipe with the important events in the wheel of the year. Food is such a vital part of any culture, and it is a lovely thing to be able to count on the historic linking of the food and recipe to the holiday. Our next celebration will be the Celtic New Year, and I will again turn to this book for inspiration and guidance in my culinary efforts.

I am trying to introduce my children to some of the foods that their ancestors ate. This book has a lot of facts and folklore as well as interesting recipes. I have only made one so far but it was pretty good.

SOMEDAY WE WILL FLY by Rachel DeWoskinPerformers in the Warsaw Circus must flee for their lives from the Nazis. As they flee to Shanghai, Lillia’s mother is lost. She and father left with no Choice, continue to Shanghai where Jews are being offered safety, but not an easy life. As the Japanese draw ever nearer, life becomes more tenuous and scary.Well written and researched, this YA novel is also a wonderful read for adults. The Jewish experience in war time China has been little known. This book attempts to rectify that omission and succeeds. Lillia, her father and those she comes in contact with are fully developed characters. The plot is engrossing.5 of 5 stars

“Someday We Will Fly” by Rachel DeWoskin is a fascinating account of Jewish refugees during WWII who escaped to Shanghai, one of the few places they could go without a visa. Not only is the setting unusual for a Holocaust story, main character Lillia and her family defy Jewish stereotypes — her parents are circus performers.At the start of the book, the family is still in Poland, their home. Just before they are to take a train that will take the family to a ship where they will sail to China, Lillia’s mother disappears. She does not reappear before they must leave to get to safety. Lillia details the travels in first person narrative, and she describes the trials of her younger sister, Naomi, who is not developing normally — not crawling or talking.In China, Lillia attends school and befriends a Chinese boy, Wei. Her father is unable to find work and they must rely on the charity of Jewish organizations. Lillia eventually manages to make some money performing at a “gentlemen’s club,” which would be forbidden if her father knew about it.The story is realistic, and Lillia is not always an admirable main character. She steals at various times in the story, and some of that theft has terrible consequences for another character in the story. In a discussion format, this would be a great question for teenagers to ponder: Is it ever all right to be dishonest? To steal? To lie?An interesting note is that the author describes what life was really like in Shanghai during that time for those refugees arriving from Europe with no money or valuables. When visiting Shanghai, travelers can see the Jewish museum, which shows the synagogue and photos from that time but does not explain the extreme hardship that those refugees experienced. In “Someday We Will Fly,” DeWoskin makes the hardships painfully real: the disease, the hunger, the lack of clean water and bathroom facilities. DeWoskin is unflinching in the realistic and harsh descriptions of the circumstances of both refugees and the inhabitants in Shanghai.While there are several different threads to the plot — the journey to Shanghai, Lillia’s schooling, her mother’s absence, her sister’s development, the Jewish plight, Lillia’s puppet-making — the overall story is compelling and eminently readable.This is a great choice for a book club or a class group — there is much to discuss, and many questions about morals and life will arise. Perfect for middle school readers and older readers.This review is based on the final, hardcover book provided by the publisher, Viking, for review purposes.

This is a stunning book, definitely the best novel I have read for at least a year. The setting—Japanese occupied Shanghai in the early 1940s. The characters-- a young adolescent Lillia and her father and little sister, refugees from the Nazi-occupied Warsaw. Shanghai was the one place in the world refuges could travel without any papers at all. Lacking papers, many made the long journey to a destination about which they knew nothing and nobody.Dewoskin’s granular and well-informed descriptions of Shanghai in the early 1940s are themselves worth the read, but added is a profoundly moving story of Lillia coming of age, without her mother, in a land and language that is totally strange to her, in a life that was unexpected, and plagued with hunger, cold, illness, and uncertainty.From the refugee processing center to the gentleman’s club Magnifique, Lillia more than survives, provides for her father, mothers her little sister, and skillfully navigates a tapestry of new relationships, with other Europeans, Japanese, Chinese, and Americans. Her strength of character, heroic if flawed, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Lillia’s mother and father were circus performers back in Warsaw, and Lillia her self is a dancer and artist in similar ways. But the brilliance of this book is the way Lillia emerges as an artist of life itself, with dance and with puppetry of all things, forging from the hardships of refugee life something beautiful and enduring.I cannot say enough good things about this novel. If you read one book this year, you would do well to make it this one.
