Seems like this book didn't even get proofread- ouch! This study guide contains ample mistakes. Additionally, much information presented is irrelevant. For instance, I spent hours studying the intense vocabulary section, only to find all of the words were irrelevant to the vocabulary on the actual HESI exam, which is much more general rather than medical-related.I purchased HESI study guides from Mometrix, McGraw Hill and Elsevier- Mometrix was by far the worst. Highly recommend the Elsevier and McGraw Hill guides to aid in smart, efficient and relevant studying for the HESI exam! Both helped me score within the 99th percentile.
I have been using this study guide for the math portion only and quickly read over the other parts. I took the HESI A2 today and scored a 96 in math and an overall composite of 94. I would recommend this guide and you need to have internet access to use the videos provided in the study guide. The guide has a practice test that covered most but not all of the type of questions on the HESI. You need to know metric conversions and liquid measurements too(ounces) of one cup up to one gallon.EDIT: Also, make sure you can convert milligram(mg) to gram(g), convert fahrenheit to celsius, convert a 12 hour standard clock to 24 hour military time. Half of the test was add/subtract/multiply/divide fractions and several questions were ratio and proportion where you needed to solve for x. Example 2:8::4:x. If you can't do basic fraction and ratio and proportion do not bother taking the test because you will fail. Also, I had about 10 word problems that were not very hard. The test format just changed and I only had to take Math, Reading Comprehension, and the Nursing Critical Skills Thinking. I had 2.5 hours to complete all three tests and was not allowed to leave the room once it started. There is a basic calculator provided to you for the test. The math was 55 question, reading comprehension was 55 questions, and nursing critical thinking was 30. As I stated already the only thing I used to prepare me for the math was this study guide plus memorizing all the conversions. I would recommend you buying this and give yourself several weeks of studying before the exam.
I just finished taking the HESI A2 exam today and passed with a 94%! All I used was this book and practice tests online. Studied for about 2 weeks but not -intensely- until the last 3 days. What I liked about this book was the vocabulary and english portion. I think both matched the exam very well. This book also includes chemistry and biology although I did not have to take that part of the exam. (I accidentally spent a week studying for these two parts) The math portion I think is harder in this book than it is on the actual test. Make sure for the actual exam you focus a lot on ratios and proportions. The anatomy part of the exam was very specific, and I can't say it's easy for any review book to help with that part, but this book helps with the general concept of what you need to review. I enjoyed the practice test in the back with the explanation of the right AND the wrong answers. I have to say, this book and the online practice exams worked for me!
This book probably taught more material than the other test prep books. It was more thorough. I used it in conjunction with other books and did very well on the HESI A2. Don't limit your studies to just one book, however. Use the one published by Elsevier and the practice tests published by McGraw Hill. I also found Cliff Notes useful for particular areas: Biology and Anatomy and Physiology.
I used this book and YouTube channels to review for the HESI A2, and I got a 96.8% cumulative score. This book was very helpful in preparing for the test, except you will need to review your A&P textbook/watch YouTube channels (Khan Academy, Crash Course) to review for the science section.
This book does not take into account that 50% of the math section are fill in the blanks, not multiple choice. Plus about 25% of the math section contained conversions, and there is nothing in the book that reviews conversions or tests for them.
I am preparing for the HESI A2 exam this December. From the reviews that I've read before purchasing this textbook it appears to have really good comments/reviews that people experience while using this study guide. This ultimately made me purchase this book and hopefully I experience the same results. After skimming through the pages, I truly appreciate how each subject is broken down and the examples given appear to me well thought out and easy to understand. I like that there is a practice test to be able to simulate/prepare for the real test.
After a short review, this book seems to give a good review of the classes that are prerequisites required for nursing and other medical professions. I gave a rating of 4 because having to request the DVD separate from the purchase was a bit frustrating. When I ordered the book, there was no mention of this.
I had previously purchased Mometrix's ATI TEAS study guide and I thought it was very informative and precise. It included all the necessary information needed for me to excel when I took the test and I believe this book will do the same for when I take the HESI A2. There was no hesitation to purchase when I saw that Mometrix also had a study guide for the HESI exam.
