I've read most of the books on competitive swimming technique going all the way back to Counsilman's "Science of Swimming" and if I was going to own only one book, this would be it. It is clearly written with beautifully clear photos that make it a pleasure to read over and over. Each time, I get something more out of it, or refresh something I'd forgotten. The best part is it's accuracy. Sheila uses world record holders and world record performances to illustrate the physics, form and turnover rate we should be using. As a competitive swimmer and coach, this is a gold mine of great information!

This is not the definitive book of swimming, but it is the probably the best single book for the individual swimmer to understand how to improve their technique and the science of it. It is a nice read with excellent photos. It shows you exactly how you should be doing it, photo by photo. You can apply what you read immediately even if you just read the chapter for a specific stroke.. written by a swimmer for swimmers. It had an immediate impact on my technique and time..

I've been swimming for about three years with no improvement in swim speed, which was difficult for me to believe. I knew there must be a technique problem. I took a short swim clinic by the author Sheila and followed up by buying and reading this book and her other book on the freestyle stroke Swim Speed Secrets. This book highlights the most important part of the stroke - the pull - and gives you all the specifics needed to improve. Now I have specific things to think about to improve my stroke. Within just a few weeks of practicing these techniques I was swimming faster and enjoying swimming more. I also like how she highlights the similarities between different strokes, which gives me simpler rules to follow when I'm trying to improve.

A great sequel to her first book. It is the best book on stroke technique out there. The book would be worth buying for the photos alone.I wound up buying 3 copies of her first book because I loaned them to people who loved it. They loaned the book to people, who loaned it to people, who loaned it..., etc. I am telling no one I bought this.

I have 2 swimmers and have been in the sport for over 2 decades. I've read dozens and dozens of swim books and this is the best book I've ever seen to explain visually and verbally the process of swimming fast. Clear. Concise. Efficient. If you want to maximize your speed or the speed of someone you know, this is the book.Sheila rocks!

Excellent book describing each stroke and how to do it. The author focuses on freestyle but the great pictures and description of each stroke is well done and easily understood.I wish her workouts included strokes other than freestyle. She says do fly but no drills on the stroke.

This has been beneficial in terms of understanding the various strokes. I am going to go back and look at her earlier book and look at companion videos. The pictures are extremely beneficial because it has allowed me the opportunity to see what the hand position looks like through the pull and check body position. Utilizing several athletes allows the chance to compare the strokes and see the similarities and differences. Well done.

If you are at all serious about improving your strokes, this book is for you. It breaks down the elements of each stroke and is full of photos of world-class swimmers doing the strokes properly. It is written for pretty much any swimmer at any level. It will help you.

His ability to break these concepts down into small and easily understandable steps sets him apart from many contemporary clinicians. He began his horsemanship journey as a teenager. He needed some cash in his pocket, so he started riding some local horses for folks just to keep them exercised. But he soon realized that his skills were lacking, and he was determined to find out what was really going on in the horse's mind. As his passion to become a skilled rider grew, he studied the great horsemen of the past, vaquero horsemanship, dressage, and anything else he could get his hands on. Then he worked for some performance trainers and surrounded himself with guys who were really handy horseback on some big ranches in the northwest. He rode horse after horse not only getting a job done but allowing each one to teach him something new. It was a lot of trial and error, but he found that no matter what level a horse is at, or what 'problems' he is having, every single horse will respond when you apply true horsemanship. Now he make hundreds of horse training videos for his followers and travels around the country conducting clinics to impart to others what the horses have taught him.

Great, great book! Instead of step by step tasks, this book tells tales about the problems that owners of horses have asked Carson to help them with, and he explains how he helped. Nearly every issue that you can come up against is discussed in this book. BUT, this book along won't make you a horseman. I've been in the game almost my whole life, and I find that many of the lessons taught by great trainers don't really sink in until YEARS later. You need to follow Carson and watch his videos. I have learned so much and enjoy learning more every day. The thrill of the "AHA"'s might take years, but they are worth it!

This book is great. It takes the common sense basics I was taught as a kid to a whole new level. Iâ€™ve already implemented several stories into real world training with my mate. I have already bought two more copies for friends because I donâ€™t want to loan it out.

I purchased these books (most of the titles in the Step 4 and 5 series) several months ago, but have been giving them out one at a time to my daughter, who is currently in first grade. She loves to read fiction, and has devoured many of the chapter books I've purchased for her or checked out of the library. I was looking for an interesting series of non-fiction books for her, and these seemed like the perfect introduction to the genre.This title covers the epic journey that led to the success of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in scaling Mt. Everest back in 1953. I was amazed at how well the author managed to condense this great experience and make it suitable for young readers. It captures all the tension of the mission, as well as mundane details like what the pair had for breakfast before they ascended Everest. Also, the illustrations on each page motivate young readers, especially visual learners like my daughter.The Step 5 readers are described as "ready for chapters, grades 2-4", though children who are younger and are at an advanced reading level will find these books interesting and suitably challenging as well.

My child loved it. Provides good concepts and it is described in a way that a young child can understand. Enjoy reading this book with my child.

My Son Is Curious About How They Gonna Get To The Top

this was more than simply an interesting story dating back some 60 years but provided my six-year-old granddaughter wonderful lessons on perseverance, determination to succeed, overcoming every obstacle, and teamwork. She also learned the necessity for good planning for anything beyond just a walk in the park. There are also many new words for her to add to her vocabulary and spelling knowledge.

My 7-year-old son very much enjoyed reading this.

I personally love books about Everest, so I was happy to share my passion with my children. The book is thrilling -- just scary enough -- but triumphant. It's filled with lots of good information about Mount Everest. It gives equal weight to Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, and has a very positive message about teamwork and international friendship.

Itâ€™s a pleasant book and the author writes in affable style. He very lightly, touches on many aspects of diet and omits many others like the detrimental effects of certain combinations of foods (ie fruit- Either either alone or leave it alone). Too much of the book was dedicated to action plans and forms to fill out if if and when youâ€™re ready to change your dietary lifestyle. Being a healthnut (his terminology not mine) for the past 20 years, there was virtually nothing for me to learn here that positively impacted my present lifestyle choices. I was looking to augment my knowledge but this book did not help me. But then again Iâ€™ve been doing this for many many years. A person just being introduced to dietary lifestyle changes would benefit from his approach.

Dr. Nico guides you on a health journey of providing you with information from understanding toxins to a good night's sleep and so much more! This is a must-read book for those of you wanting to live a healthier and productive life!

I really enjoyed this very informative book, The cover and layout were very attractive and inviting. It had everything, excellent biography, endnotes, beginning steps to follow a diet of your choice. Everything from fasting, toxins, gmo --all the information and more was there. I especially liked the high lighted and boxed pros and cons to every type of diet. This is a very sweet little book, nice for use as a gift to someone who quilts or to a child. Either would appreciate it equally. The poems have wonderful life's lessons any child could relate to, all superimposed on lovely pictures of quilts made by hand. I sent it as a going away gift to a friend who is moving to be near her daughter's family with small kids. I can imagine her cuddled up to one of here grandchildren, reading this book to them. I really enjoyed it and would love to have a copy myself.

Hines' exquisitely illustrated quilted pieces are coordinated so profoundly with her poetry for youngsters and older readers alike. Shared with members of our quilting guild, the author's book made lasting impressions on techniques for both handwork and for the challenge of creating peace. Those quilters who scribbled the title in their purchase notes are sure to add this masterpiece to their library collections.

This is a beautiful book for both children and adults. Anna Hines' poems look at peace from many different perspectives and are accompanied by exquisite, highly detailed quilts made by the author to illustrate their themes. She also discusses the way she works and includes the biographies of eight peacemakers. A lovely addition to a child's library as well as a gift for adults.

As we were working on a Peace Quilt for Quaker Meeting, I bought this book to show to the children.... The author is a phenomenal quilter. Beautifully made, original, and sometimes ingenious, this book is a delight to the eye and to the ear.

Sherrill Tippins in her new book Inside the Dream Palace has given us an interesting history of those years from the hotel's founding by a French architect to the present day. The Chelsea has always had a reputation as being a gathering place for counterculture artists, e.g., Thomas Wolfe, Dylan Thomas, Arthur Miller, Alan Ginsburg, Andy Warhol, and Bob Dylan. This book explains why that might have been the case and goes on to speculate about what the future might hold.Ms Tippins has done a good job of educating readers about a landmark hotel while, at the same time, entertaining her audience. Inside the Dream Palace is a book worth reading.

What an extensive, well written and researched book! It is not only a who's who of the Hotel Chelsea but a lesson in history of NYC, the Chelsea neighborhood and architecture. I could not put this book down. It is long, with a great bibliography and photos. After reading, I spent hours on the internet researching more about each aspect of Hotel Chelsea, El Quijote and movies/stories written, and what happened to the key people mentioned. One of the most memorable books I have read in a very long time! It brought back lots of memories of the 1960'-70's that I had forgotten. I would highly recommend just for the period of history it spans. Now I would like a tour of the landmark hotel. I would like to see the apartments that were described in the book, the roof top, the stairway with the fancy wrought iron railing. I would like to experience this for real, see where the dreams were made, as the book is so compelling. Thank you for bringing out the skeletons of Hotel Chelsea!

I didn't really know what to expect when I started reading this book. All I really knew about it was connected to Dylan's Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands and his references to it. I was aware of the Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungeon tragedy and knew other artists had lived there. What I found was a tale rich with history and colorful characters, more stories of the tremendous toll drug and alcohol addiction take on lives no matter their socio economic status, and ultimately the story of the life of the artist, no matter the form of expression of that art or music. The Chelsea's story is that of the flow of American culture, and the book is well worth the read.

I loved the scope of history from the architecture and the artists who lived there from the beginning to the 90's. It goes very in depth with the origins of the design to the current state of the building. This book is a who's who of New York art from the conception of the hotel Chelsea through the sixties and 80's .I've discovered more artists and wonderful gossip in this book than is found on the internet . Just a great read !

THE DREAM PALACE is a book you can read straight through, use the index as a launch pad, or open at random for months -- almost anywhere you pick up the thread, you'll find something wonderful. The Chelsea's story is unique, as far as I know: it played host to great artists, rockers, poseurs, wanna-bes, people at both ends of their career arc. Their stories are told with an eye for the kind of details that make it all real (and sometimes make the reader's jaw drop) and that illuminates the book's central thread, beginning with the utopian ideals of the architect and builder through the hotel's saggier years, all the way to the present day, when the its future is in the hands of cold-eyed developers. This is a great followup for Tippens to her wonderful FEBRUARY HOUSE, in which she told the story of another, much smaller haven for artists and eccentrics across the river in Brooklyn.

An inside look at the Chelsea Hotel plus some great historical background about New York City. If you're looking for a 'People' rag gossip fest about the rich and famous who lived and died at the Chelsea, look elsewhere. If you'd like to read some serious research about the life of this hotel (and, yep, it's alive like Stephen King's Overlook Hotel was), make yourself comfortable and plan on reading late into the night.

I wish I had the time to write a review that did this justice. Incredible research. Good writing. I devoured it as if it were fiction. I miss it now that it's finished. It was history through the lens of art and creativity. And I almost went to live in the Chelsea Hotel but got married and stayed in my hometown instead. Mistake? On many levels I feel such regret that those days (for me and for NYC) are over.

I thought I knew New York. But when I read "Inside the Dream Palace," I found out what I never knew -- a history of New York that showed me how the creatives and the crazies made the city the artistic center of the world. In her opening, Tippins says that over time we lose sight of the places that originally drew us to the city. I'll never NOT be able to see the Chelsea Hotel, or the city, again. Ms. Tippins, thank you.

Tippins places the story of the Chelsea within the larger historic context. This is a thoughtful work that traces the arts from Mark Twain to Sid and Nancy set against the backdrop of a hotel founded in the utopian community movement. An engaging read. The lives of the famous and infamous are treated with respect, this is not some tawdry tell all nor is it simply a list to impress. One of the best.

Concise, readable, sensitive, relevant, useful, effective, calming + confidence-building to the parent, and more.Our pediatrician recommended his Touchpoints, and neither I nor my wife have had any regrets with either volume.In fact, if I had to buy only 1 parenting advice book, I'd buy Brazelton. (tho considering his Touchpoints-Birth to Three &TP:3-6 as a 2-volume set of "1 book!")With this volume, the biggest "downcheck" lies with the parents:For the TP:B-3 book, most parents are still in their "check the manual" phase. By the time parents get to Brazelton's TP:3-6 volume, the training wheels have come off, parents are in cruise-control, and all the parenting books are collecting dust with the flotsam and jetsam of early childhood.*... until night terrors or some other unexpected adventure bursts into the scene!!At that point, it's so beneficial for parents to recall that they have a reserve battery of TBB's advice waiting for them on their shelf.* Please excuse my mixing 3 metaphors in 1 sentence!

I read Brazelton forty years ago when my first baby was born. It was very helpful when trying to navigate the rough storms of child-rearing. Now I have grandchildren. My first was a dream. She was always agreeable and never fussy. Then, as she approached three and a new baby was on the way, she started to cling to mommy and became upset at a moment's notice. Going to bed became difficult. So I ordered the Brazelton books for me and her parents. Immediately I remembered some things I knew before and picked up some pointers I had never known. This book is easy to understand and soooooo helpful.

I am a retired nurse educator; maternal/child nursing was my masters-level major, neonatal intensive care was my clinical specialty. Brazelton is my decades-long idol for helping me to read infant behavioral cues and to respond to them, as well as to transmit same to parents. I bought Brazelton's original "Touchpoints: The Essential Reference" as soon as it was published in 1992; I still treasure that well-worn copy. I give to new parent and grandparent friends the revised version, which I believe now has a title that indicates it is for newborns to age three. I have not read it, but it seems to fit the "essential reference" theme. For "Touchpoints 3 to 6", Brazelton uses a case study approach that builds on the premises established in the reference. I like case studies, so I would give this book five stars if I didn't know that not all readers can use case studies. Readers who have internalized the premises established in the first book may find it more useful than those who have not.

Dr. Brazelton seems to be a gentle and loving advocate for children, and a doctor who understands them! I've read other books by him and enjoyed them very much, and been comforted by them, and was looking forward to this addition to his work. Unfortunately I agree with most of the other comments made here, that the format makes it much more difficult to find specific information. Because the authors use four composite children to describe many events and behaviors, it makes it difficult to tease out what is relevant. Our toddler is very similar in temperament to "Billy", but Billy supposedly grew up with an abusive father for a while and his mother has remarried -- nothing like our child's experience -- so what becomes irrelevant in the text and what can we still use? Largely told as lengthy narratives, it takes a long time to find useful ideas, but there is a good index that helps.Despite the poor format, the ideas here are solid and helpful. Brazelton and Sparrow posit that as children reach milestones of development they backslide in other areas -- a usually peaceful child suddenly indulging in temper tantrums as they begin to conquer speech, for example.We've found Brazelton's ideas helpful and spot-on, and there are unique events in this age range that make the book useful, though the clunky format keeps it from being invaluable.

Brazelton's discussions of child development and his parenting tips are spot-on and very well supported by research (and common sense). I really dislike the format of this book, though. It's written as a narrative about 4 children with different temperaments and it makes it difficult to locate imformation and to figure out what's relevent to your own child.

Dr. Brazeltonâ€™s books are so useful. Such a loving and caring and helpful person.

These books came highly recommended. So lucky to have been able to find them on Amazon. I would absolutely recommend for helping with raising your children.

This is an excellent, easy to follow, well thought out book on Camtasia. You can download all of the tutorial files from the website.

Excellent book based on exercises with text and screenshots for learning Catasia 2018. Well presented in a very logical order. Great way to learn new software.

I bought this planning to read it on one of my monitors and another having Camtasia opened on it. Turns out you can ONLY read this book on the Kindle App. For me that is my smartphone. While I have a good sized phone (Samsung Note 8) the format of this book is still too big. In print this book is 8" x 11" which when viewed on the phone is like looking through a keyhole. Yes I can zoom but it is not ideal to say the least.The book content itself is good if a bit brief. I expected a much longer text but I guess the name "Essentials" is what they meant size wise too!
