This is a very candid and honest account of what it is like to live with the sword of cancer dangling above your head every moment. Dr Yunus has poured her heart and soul out in this book. She has tried to analyze herself objectively at times, given her background as psychiatrist but at the same time, you can feel the raw emotions and the vulnerability pouring out, which makes it very relatable for anyone. Being candid while not delving in self-pity, this book is clearly Dr Yunus's "time capsule", showing how she would like to be remembered in years to come. It is a must read for anyone who wants a blueprint on how to (as the author puts it) "beat life at its game, one day at a time".
I loved the insight to what it is like to live with MBC and the emotions Uzma Yunus puts forth in this book. A gut wrenching, hopeful, to the point journal of what it is like to live with cancer and the expectations that must change that most of us take for granted.
It has been hard for me to put the book down without completing it. I would recommend this book to everyone who has a loved one battling cancer. I thought I understood the challenges and uphill battle of friends and family fighting cancer every moment; but I was wrong. The book helps you comprehend the extent of ailment - not just physical but emotional, curves for immediate family and triumphs of human mind and heart.
Powerful is an understatement, Dr. Yunas is a beautiful storyteller. She gives a unique perspective to a horrible illness. I did not want to put the book down. I think it is a must read for those going into medicine, it tells the story from the patient's side. She remains positive and her outlook on life is to be admired. It is a beautiful crafted story that I think all will enjoy.
This book is a very easy to read collection of chapters that were initially written as a blog by the author, as she was going through this most difficult life journey. It offers a most unique perspective of self analysis during the roller coaster of emotions and physical pain. As a psychiatrist , Dr Younus is able to deconstruct and work through thr darkness and use her pain as a source of strength. This book offers a unique window into the most personal and private thoughts of a brilliant mind. Would highly recommend.
Dr Yunus is a psychiatrist, a wife, mother of two, and has metastatic breast cancer. She is, indeed, a Model of Courage, and writes with wisdom and empathy about her life. This is a book that should be read by anyone who knows someone whose life is touched by this disease.....which is, of course, every one of us. She writes candidly and beautifully about her life since diagnosis and the impact on her life, career and family. This little volume should be required reading for every medical professional who deals with patients or their families. I recommend it highly.
I am just about mid-way through the "Left Boob Gone Rogue" book. While I could easily read the book in one night, I want to take my time and think about the words. Dr. Yunus is courageous and inspirational, using social media and blogs to educate, encourage or motivate and help.i believe another reviewer wrote the words "this is not a book about cancer". This book is about a woman's courage, wisdom, and drive to fight!! The book is written clearly, concise, brings tears but also hope.The writer is a physician, mother and wife. You get a firsthand account of a person living life to the fullest despite cancer. You understand that Dr. Yunus fights each day for her family. The short burst chapters/sections make Left Boob Gone Rogue easy to read. I hope anyone who reads this book educates, inspires, spread messages of love and hope like Dr. Yunus does. Life cannot be predicted. Its been a blessing to come across Dr. Yunus and see/read her zest on life.
A must read for anybody who has been touched, or loves somebody who has been touched by breast cancer, or any cancer.All through devastating tests, medical exams, painful therapies , the author’s love of life triumphs while she gives us such a precious description of her emotional state with the wisdom and knowledge of an experienced and well trained psychiatrist .I found a lot of light and hope, through all the darkness that cancer evokes, in this book.Maria Halaris
