How truly "captivating" !Furthermore, words that might be new and in need of being looked up are given, with their translations, in the so-named "vocabulary pages" at the END of each story instead of each page having a separate little section at the bottom, as for footnotes (and as is the case with all standard foreign-language readers), with the difficult words of each page and their translations right there, at the bottom of the page you are on, so that you just have to glance at the bottom to see the meaning.But no. Here, you have to keep flipping back and forth from your place in the book to the vocabulary pages at the end of the very dull and unimaginative story you are attempting to slog through.In the 2nd story an IT geek is very proud of all of his equipment and sets it up in a new office, but the printer doesn't work. So he calls in his friend and the friend's dog (Wow! Fun!) to help him.I only suffered though 2 pages of the first story and 1 page of the 2nd. Then, out of a sense of self-preservation, I gave up. The book is now lying on the table in the front hall while I try to come up with an idea of what to do with it. It cost too much to put it in the bin with old newspapers, etc., waiting to be taken to the recycling area, but I cannot think of anyone I'd foist it on.Arka
I'm working through this volume more slowly than the Beginner volume I reviewed previously, which is all to the good because it means learning is happening. :) Like the first book, this is a collection of stories that were written expressly to reinforce specific grammar and vocabulary points, so occasionally they can feel a little forced, but still they're a much more fun way to get that additional exposure than just working through a textbook! (Which I'm also doing...)
This was a great book to help me take my French Vocabulary to a new level. Some parts were easy for me but some parts were challenging that required me to take the time to learn new vocabulary. The stories are interesting and allowed me to stay focused to learn the new vocabulary through the context of the stories. This book was a good way for me to continue enhancing my ability to “Speak†French quickly. I hope there will be an audio version soon as this will speed up my learning as well. A great book to learn Vocabulary faster and in a fun way.
